There are a lot of things on my mind on the eve of Yuri Ryona Jam. On one hand, I’ve been sketching away at the big picture for this project for several months now and I am super excited to finally put rubber to the road. On the other hand, this is going to be my largest writing project to date, and I’m a bit scared that I’m biting off more than than I can chew, especially once you consider the stat-raising and simulation elements of the game.1

Just on time, I’ve completed my listed set of goals for developing the roguelike fork of the renpy Dating Sim Engine. The biggest and most impressive feature of this fork is a standalone python simulator for DSE playthroughs, which can be used to estimate typical player stats under different play strategies or estimate gameplay stats like how hard specific endings are to achieve.

Another month, another game! This time I was the visual designer & artist for Bug Grinder, which was co-developed with Fisher and frog friend jams. It was a lot of fun to step into a different role on a project than I normally take; this project started with Fisher posting something to the effect of “I’d like to get a team together to make a body horror mecha vn for Noise Jam”, after which I sent in my portfolio of relevant body horror work and then began to spitball ideas with it. Long time no see! Been doing a lot of things in the past three weeks or so and I’m excited to share it all with y’all.
Most important news first: I have released a new anthology game, Friction & Integration. My contribution to this game is what I was alluding to in the Offsuit Pair post-mortem when I said that I still had a few ideas I wanted to play around with in the same engine. I’m so tired.
I feel like I don’t have very much to say about the current itch.io situation that hasn’t already been said. What a time to start dipping my toes into gamedev and launch my first non-anthology vn.
